Guzheng Workshop in Queensland Conservatorium

Thanks to Dr. Gerardo, Head of Composition, for the kind invitation to present at the Queensland Conservatorium! 😀

Recently, I had the honor of sharing aspects of traditional Chinese music with a talented group of future composers at this prestigious institution. The professional environment of the Queensland Conservatorium made it the perfect setting for this kind of cross-cultural exchange. The challenge of introducing Chinese music to a group where 90% of the students were non-Chinese made the experience even more rewarding, as it opened up new perspectives for everyone involved.

During the session, I gave a brief yet comprehensive explanation of traditional Chinese music styles, touching on their evolution and unique characteristics. 🎶 It was an enriching experience for all, as I demonstrated pieces written by the students themselves. Through this, I discovered many fascinating differences between Eastern and Western musical concepts. My hope is that these talented young composers will take inspiration from this session and begin to explore innovative ways to combine Chinese and Western musical elements in their future works.

It was also a delight to share my personal experience with the guzheng, one of China’s most iconic instruments. The interest and curiosity it sparked among the students were amazing, and I truly hope they will consider incorporating the guzheng into their own compositions. 🎶🎵

Lastly, I was impressed with the creativity displayed in the students' trial pieces. Their originality and potential are undeniable, and I eagerly await to see these pieces evolve into fully developed compositions. Their professionalism and passion for music are truly inspiring!

Thanks for Ruan teacher support it!
